The Tulip Eero Saarinen Swivel Chair without Seat Cushion has been created by Eero Saarinen for the brand Knoll International. Designed in 1957, it won its designer the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1969. It has continued to stand up to the passage of time with its classic style.
The Tulip Eero Saarinen Swivel Chair without Seat Cushion has a shell made of resin reinforced with fibreglass. The shell is a singular piece which gives it a clean, sleek silhouette and makes it less vulnerable to breaking which has a tendency to happen around joints. An industrial moulding process has been used to give it a shape that replicates a tulip where it is narrow at the top and broad at the bottom. Its backrest is slightly rounded for better back support and comfort and its seat is generously sized. The shell is supported by a flute-shaped stem that in turn is supported by a round base. The base is made of cast aluminium base finished with Rilsan coating for colour and protection. It has a mechanism that makes it possible to swivel.
