Tokyo Pop Lounger
The Tokyo Pop Lounger has been created by Tokujin Yoshioka for the brand Driade. It is not immediately clear that it is a lounger. This is thanks to its sculptural design which is a complete departure from the norm.
The Tokyo Pop Lounger is made of polyethylene 'PE'. It is a type of plastic that is favoured for industrial applications because it is lightweight yet strong and durable. Also, it can withstand the elements which make the lounger suitable for use both indoors and outdoors. The lounger is a single moulded piece without any joints or fasteners. This eliminates the need for joints which make a piece vulnerable to breakage. The lounger has a high, reclined backrest. Its lines extend downwards to sides one of which has a peak while the other has a dropped arm making for an intriguing, unexampled design. The lines continue into folds that are lifted so the legs are raised when sitting in the lounger. The shell rests on slabs that are also made of PE.
The Tokyo Pop Lounger has a length of 157cm, a width of 74cm and a height of 79cm. Its seat height is 40cm and its armrest height is 65cm. It comes in neutral colours.
