S 32 VH Bar Stool with Wickerwork 112cm
The S 32 VH Bar Stool with Wickerwork 112cm was designed by Marcel Breuer for the brand Thonet.
Established by a master carpenter in the 19th century, Thonet saw success when its manufacturing processes turned from handcrafting to industrialisation. Marcel Breuer, a 20th-century pioneer in the use of tubular steel for furniture making was part of this transformation. Hugely important in 20th-century design, Breuer was part of the Bauhaus Movement. He claimed that his inspiration for tubular steel furniture came from bicycle handlebars. Breuer was awarded the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects.
Originally designed in the 1930s, the S 32 VH Bar Stool with Wickerwork 112cm was led by the trend for high tables in bars and restaurants. Today, the design sits comfortably at height-adjustable desks or at kitchen counters and breakfast bars. Traditional Vienna cane work with a border of stained beech is used for the stool's seat and back. This makes a pleasing contrast to the chromed tubular steel frame and legs. Their futuristic shape is crafted in one flowing piece. The S 32 VH Bar Stool with Wickerwork 112cm is 48cm wide and 61cm deep, with a seat height of 75cm.
