Base Table 190x85cm
The Base Table 190x85 cm was designed by Mika Tolvanen for the manufacturer Muuto. The name of this company comes from the Finnish word for new perspectives, and its aim is to take the traditional values of Scandinavian design into the future with new materials and technology. Trained at the Royal College of Art and based in Helsinki, Mika Tolvanen is an up-and-coming young designer who takes a rigorous, functional approach to creating furniture for the home and workplace. He won the Bruno Mathsson Prize in 2012.
Standing 75 cm tall, the Base Table 190x85 cm from Muuto has an aluminium frame coated in durable acrylic paint, which supports a plywood tabletop covered in a choice of monochrome laminate or linoleum and edged in smooth ABS plastic. Typically Nordic in its lightness and simplicity, the result is a robust, versatile design that will stand up to hard wear and blend seamlessly into most contemporary settings, whether commercial or domestic. It is suitable for a range of uses, for example as a breakfast table in a family kitchen, a desk in an office or a dining table in a cafeteria.
