Ameland Letter Opener

The Ameland paper knife was created by Enzo Mari for the Milan based label Danese.

Bruno Danese and Jacqueline Vodoz launched their label sixty years ago. Since then it has gained a reputation for its contemporary furniture and accessory design. Using innovative and environmentally sound materials and techniques the label brings together inspiration from photography as well as the graphic and visual arts. Italian-born Enzo Mari is an industrial and furniture designer who is known for creating pieces that play with the aesthetics of shape while still being totally functional. His work can be viewed in many museums and he is a three times winner of the Compasso d'Oro.

The Ameland paper knife perfectly demonstrates Enzo Mari's passion for experimenting with an object's shape. With its simple design, this paper knife or letter opener is a perfect marriage of form and function. The smooth but twisted curve of its design makes it very tactile, while its weight and outline make it sit naturally in the hand. The Ameland paper knife is made from high-grade satinised stainless steel and measures 22cm in length and 2cm in width.
