Nelson Ball Bubble Suspension Lamp
The Nelson Ball Bubble Suspension Lamp was designed by George Nelson for the manufacturer HAY.
George Nelson is best known for his revolutionary design work with modular storage systems, the first L-shaped desk and the minimal but functional Nelson Bubble Lamps introduced in 1952. For over three decades, Nelson created innovative furniture and lighting designs including the Marshmallow Sofa and many other works that are exhibited in museums including New York's MoMA.
The iconic Nelson Ball Bubble Suspension Lamp pioneered a new material and production method in the lighting industry. Using material application designed for military use, the lamp was created by spray-coating a soft plastic around a round steel wire frame. The wire frame remains slightly visible after the plastic coat solidifies, allowing the lamp to give off a soft diffusing glow. This circular lamp is translucent and has a brushed nickel trim finish at its base delivering luxurious contrast. The lamp comes with a ceiling plate that allows it to hang overhead from a generously lengthy white PVC cable. This Nelson Ball Bubble Suspension Lamp is available in three size variants and is ideal for either domestic or office use.
