As a design house for new furniture ideas, Thonet played a major role in pioneering the tubular steel furniture, which became a design trend. The Thonet B 117 Bedside Table takes that rich history and combines it with a modern and minimalist approach to bedroom furniture that makes more out of less.
The stand structure of the tables is a single uninterrupted steel line that bends and curves in a mould that expresses absolute forms of efficiency. At the head of the standing structure, a drawer box juts out in a ledge-like fashion that at once seems to float and also provides an interesting juxtaposition with the steel base of the unit. At 68cm high, it is an ideal height for most modern bed constructions and its depth of 49cm provides significant storage capacity for the drawer unit. As a design, it provides a refreshing change from traditional boxy bedside designs. It is also lightweight and, therefore, quite portable and easy to reposition in a room.
