The Babilonia XL Shelf 230x33x185cm is made of sheets of steel. Rather than being finished with powder coating or paint, the metal has been phosphatized. Also known as phosphating coating, it is a process where phosphoric acid is used to coat a metal with a protective layer. It adheres to it and becomes a shield against corrosion and other forms of damage. The shelf has a novel look created by layering differently-sized shelves on top of each other. The tier of five shelves has the larger ones at the top. Another visually striking detail is that the individual shelves have a rectangular top, a full-length slab on one side and a shorter one on the other side. It is the shorter sides that are layered. Apart from the aesthetics, the design also makes it possible to extend the shelves outwards or inwards till they are at the preferred height.
