The Marchand Atelier Model 4040 Office Chair is made of PAG wood that has melamine pressed onto it. Rather than the conventional seat that fills out the space, the seat on this chair is long. This leaves a gap between the inner edge and the backrest. The edges of the seat raise up to form armrests. The shell sits on a frame made of die-cast aluminium. It has a thick stem that goes underneath the seat. There is a gas pressure spring next to it that makes it possible to adjust the height of the chair. The stem extends downwards where it splits into five legs that form a star-shaped base. Each leg has double swivel castors.
