Carbon Chair
The stylish Carbon Chair was created by Marcel Wanders and Bertjan Pot for the Dutch manufacturer Moooi.
The name Moooi means 'beautiful' in Dutch, with an extra 'o' inserted to stand for extra value and uniqueness. The brand focuses on exclusive designs that are both playful and daring, something that Wanders and Pot have achieved with their charming Carbon Chair, designed in 2004.
As the name suggests, the chair is made from carbon, which is mixed with epoxy resin. This is woven into individual strands to give a latticed, net-like effect to the seat and back of the chair, which has no sides. The unconventional material makes the chair extremely light, with a textured effect that is cool and comfortable to sit on. The four legs have crossed struts on all sides, adding to the aesthetic appeal of the piece as well as reinforcing and strengthening it. There are also bars joining the bottoms of each pair of legs, adding to the chair's stability. This unique chair is suitable for use indoors and out, where its intricate aesthetic and hi-tech craftsmanship will enhance any surroundings. The chair is 79cm tall and has a 45cm seat height.
