Finnish designer Karri Monni studied both carpentry and architecture and this brings a strong viewpoint to his work. A cross between a chair and a stool, the design is part of Lapalma's Lab collection. Inspired by the sorts of stools you see in laboratories, it elevates this everyday object with a touch of fun, informality and visual flair.
Standing 76cm tall and 60cm wide, the Lab S70 Swivel Stool/Office Chair sits on an aluminium base and is padded with polyurethane foam covered with durable upholstery. It has a number of practical features. Both the seat and backrest are height adjustable, it has self-locking castors and, of course, it swivels, too. Most buyers, though, are likely to be more struck by its slender geometric shape, with its round seat and square shoulder joined by a bent rectangular backrest. The resulting silhouette has a strong sculptural impact, and this is underlined with a funky fabric choice. Light and versatile, the chair is especially suitable for people who are frequently in motion, whether in an office, a home studio or indeed a laboratory.
